Hi Alex,
Something that I discovered this week was the "Language Bar". I always turn it off when install Windows, so I had forgotten it existed, and it contains the exact feature you're looking for.
In Windows XP:
1. Right click the Windows task bar. A popup menu should appear. 2. Select the "Toolbars" menu item, which has a submenu. 3. Select "Lanuage Bar". The language bar should appear. 4. Click the second icon in the language toolbar. It's tool tip is "Speech Tools". 5. Select "Options". A window entitled "Speech Properties" will be displayed. 6. Click the "Settings" button. A window entitled "Recognition Profile Settings' will be displayed. 7. There are sliders there, and one of them is for "Accuracy vs. Recognition Response Time".
However, as the window notes, there is a tradeoff between recognition accuracy and response time.
Hope that helps.
Thanks, Daniel
